IMO AT 50; A GOLDEN JUBILEE OF VISION, GROWTH AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

By Stanford Arinze Nwokedi

February 3, 1976, marked the birth of the old Imo State. That day in Imo history heralded prospects and possibilities that would take time to unfold. The old Imo would go ahead to give rise to Abia and Ebonyi States, yet remained viable and prolific in both material and human resources. By the special grace of God, the same Imo State, again, is on the cusp of birthing another new "baby-State".  Nothing better demonstrates the generational growth and potential of Imo State than this viability and potency. No wonder it is widely held that the 16 different Military cum Civilian Administrators/Governors that led Imo State had done so through a long way. They had achieved consequential milestones recorded in their different eras.

Governor Hope Uzodimma, the Father-figure of "Imo At 50", has driven the status of the State he met through a monumental and unprecedented progress with his visionary leadership. His "Shared Prosperity" mantra has become a beacon, symbolizing inclusive governance and equitable resource distribution. The 3R Agenda has transformed Imo's infrastructure, healthcare, education, security, and economy.

Initiatives like  the "Light Up Imo Project ", the "Orashi Free Trade Zone, the SkillUpImo Initiative" etc are all tailor-made to drive a generational transformation of the State. These are deliberate visionary creations targeted at the people of Imo. The lexicons and the imports they herald showcase Governor Hope Uzodimma's understanding of Imo's needs.

A dispassionate overview of the 50 years under review throws up a mixed grill of experiences. Our history radiates the efforts of the founding leaders and top performers,: Rear Admiral Ndubuisi Kalu authored the original developmental master plan, and Chief Sam Onunaka Mbakwe presented a tenacity favourably comparable with the tenacity of the incumbent Governor, His Excellency Dist Sen Hope Uzodimma. There were average performers too, and there was one from whom the patrimony of Imo State had to be retrieved from his clenched fists through the leadership bravery, courage and tact of the 3R crusade vide the Recovery sub cache.  This is a business for another day.

Under Governor Uzodimma's stewardship, Imo has witnessed unprecedented growth and development. The incumbent Governor's mantra of "Shared Prosperity" has become a rallying cry, symbolizing his commitment to inclusive governance and equitable distribution of resources. The "3R Agenda" - reconstruction, rehabilitation, and recovery - has transformed the state's Infrastructure holistically. Imo economy has now grown so big to prove that leadership requires articulate visionaries and not just the loquacious Maradonas.

From the "Light Up Imo Project" to the "Orashi Free Trade Zone" and the "SkillUpImo Initiative", Governor Uzodimma has inundated Imo with lexicons that demonstrate a clear understanding of the State's needs and aspirations. These lexicons have come to stay in the annals of Imo State.

Gov Hope Uzodimma's charismatic leadership and ability to build political bridges have yielded remarkable results, including a more direct National grid connection of Imo State.  This was a feat previously thought impossible. Being a First Eleven National Political player, Gov Hope Uzodimma has short-circuited Imo State's connection to the National Political Grid with consequential developments dotting the land of Imo State.

Imo's journey to 50 is truly a testament to the State's resilience and potential. The State's growth and the prospect of birthing yet another "baby-State"  are validations of the solid foundations laid by pioneers like Rear Admiral Ndubuisi Kalu, Chief Sam Onunaka Mbakwe, and a strong tribute to Governor Uzodimma's leadership and legacies.

As Imo celebrates this milestone, it is clear that the State is poised for greater heights, with Governor Uzodimma at the helm.

In this Golden Jubilee Year, Imo State is proud to showcase its achievements. Governor Hope Uzodimma not only stands tall as the architect of a new era of prosperity and progress but also as a pathfinder whose mature Politics has positively impacted Imo State and the Igbo race at large.

The bride of the day - Imo At 50 - is worth celebrating. Our growth and prospects present a living hope and a testament to our unwavering commitment to the people of Imo.

Congratulations to all patriotic Imolites.

Long live Imo State!

Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!!

May Imo continue to win beyond  2027!!!
